Please take the time now to prepare for possible deteriorating weather conditions that are expected over the weekend. Please inspect your home and do the following:
· If you have a porch/patio please remove all furniture and items from the area. These could be possible projectiles that could damage your or your neighbor’s property or cause injury.
· Please follow all local officials and local media for instructions on preparation or evacuation. For hurricane preparation details for your area please click here. For evacuation route information click here.
This is the time to begin your mental (thought processes) preparations for a possible hurricane (Irene) landfall in South Carolina at week’s end.
Fuel your planned ‘evacuation vehicle’ and keep it above half full for the week. Don’t forget your fuel cans for your emergency generator. From your bank, obtain enough cash in small bills to last you through 5 days without power.
Recheck your Hurricane Kit and ensure you have enough canned food and water for at least 5, yes, 5 days for every member of your household and your pets too. Ensure you have all medications and special needs requirements for all family members and pets to last for 5 days.
Your Hurricane kit is your shelter-in-place kit. If a community evacuation is planned, it is in your and your family’s best interest to go when it is voluntary, not mandatory. You will be glad you did it voluntarily.
If evacuating, take enough with you from your Hurricane Kit to last for 2-3 days. Ensure you have all medications and special needs requirements for all family members and pets to last for 2-3 days. Have a To Go Kit ready containing your important personal papers.
Assess your house and the outside property for actions required to take before a storm.
Revisit your personal Family Emergency Plan and make sure all family members are familiar with it.
We encourage you to take a necessary precautions/preparations to protect you and your family as well as your home.
